IBT Favourite Courses

Royal Troon’s Championship Course is one of Scotland’s most underrated links, a classic out-and-back routing along the Firth of Clyde with a stern inward half and a grand finish beside the handsome clubhouse. The iconic Postage Stamp 8th grabs the headlines, but for pure links golf, Troon is hard to beat.

A firm favourite of the IBT team, Western Gailes delivers the complete links experience. Warm clubhouse hospitality, a magnificent course routed between railway and beach, and sunsets over Arran from the terrace all leave a lasting impression. Played across wild dunes on superb links turf, it is links golf at its purest.

The home of The Open, Prestwick is a glorious step back in time and one of golf’s most characterful links. Iconic holes such as Railway, Cardinal, Alps and Elysian Fields have inspired architects around the world, while the course’s rich history and unforgettable clubhouse lunch make for a truly memorable day.

Less familiar to overseas visitors, Gailes Links is part of Glasgow Golf Club, one of the oldest golf clubs in the world. Laid out by Willie Park Jr, it is a superb and demanding links where pot bunkers, excellent greens and subtle strategy test every part of your game. Sea views may be absent, but the course is rich in character and architectural quality.
